Ads

Ads are managed in the AdRotate section of the admin. You can create and manage Adverts (individual ads) and Groups (collection of adverts).

Adverts

Adverts are the individual ads on your site. Please check the Image Size chart for reference when creating ads. Ads will have a start and end date, and their impressions and clicks will be tracked (when statistics are enabled).

Creating an Advert
  1. Hover over “AdRotate” in the left side bar of the admin and click on “Manage Adverts
  2. At the top of the page, above the list of adverts, click the “Add New” link
  3. Enter the name of the Advert. This is for administration purpose and not displayed to the user. It is recommended to include whether it is a horizontal ad or a square ad.
  4. Skip down to “Banner Asset” and next to the WordPress media field choose “Select Banner
    1. This will open the WordPress media popup.
    2. Upload the ad and select it.
  5. Go back up the form to the “AdCode” field.
    1. Next to the large textbox there are a list of “Basic Examples”
    2. Click on the 4th link down which will populate the text box with the ad code. The code should look like:

    3. Replace the URL with the URL the ad should go to when clicked.

    4. For accessibility purposes, alt text will need to be added to the code.

    5. Replace the words Describe ad with a description of the ad. Leave the quotes in place, replace the words between them.
    6. This completes the Ad Code portion
  6. Important: Go down the form to the “Statistics” field, check the box for Statistics.  If you do not check this box, then ad views and clicks will not be tracked.
  7. Schedule your Advert section allows for a date range to be entered to show your ad. These dates will be used so if you would like the ad to never expire, set the date very far into the future.
  8. Skip over the next few areas until you get to the Select Groups and choose what group you would like the ad display in. This is not required.
  9. Click “Save Advert

Groups

Groups are a collection of ads. When a group is displayed on a page, the ads will rotate through the active ads of the group at 6 second intervals.

Creating a Group
  1. Hover over “AdRotate” in the left side bar of the admin and click on “Manage Groups
  2. At the top of the page, above the list of groups, click the “Add New” link
  3. Enter the name of the Group. This is for administration purpose and not displayed to the user.
  4. Set the Mode
    1. Basic: The ad will only change when the page is reloaded.
    2. Dynamic:  Ads will rotate every 6 seconds.
  5. Advert size: Set the size of the ad area. Ad Images will still need cropped to this size before uploading. For groups that will be used in the sidebar, set the ad size to 500 x 500.
  6. All other fields can be left as is.
  7. At the bottom is a list of the add and you can choose which to include in your group.
  8. Click “Save Group
Using a Group

To place a group on your site you will need to get the groups shortcode. A shortcode looks like:

 

The shortcode can be found in the Usage section of the Groups edit page.

You can put an ad shortcode on a page by placing the Ad Space block where you want the add to display and pasting in the shortcode in the provided field.
