Semester in Media

The BRIGHT-FM Semester in Media internship program exists to provide hands-on experience and personal spiritual growth within the world of Media.

Participants, who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, will have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about the many facets of media.

If you have a passion for production, digital media, live events, community engagement, sales, or operations, then Semester in Media may be a perfect fit for you.

Community Engagement & Live Events Intern

BRIGHT-FM is seeking an intern with a heart for community outreach and an interest in radio and live event production. The intern hired for this position must be comfortable interacting with the station’s listeners in a positive and encouraging manner.

The intern is required to have weeknight and weekend availability.

Interns will gain experience in the following areas:

  • Planning and coordinating local community outreach events and contests
  • Assist in on-site coordination of live events
  • Representing BRIGHT-FM at concerts and other station events
  • Building and communicating with a volunteer team
Sales Intern

BRIGHT-FM is seeking an intern with an interest in radio and digital advertising sales. The intern hired for this position will need to have organizational skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and desire to learn about marketing/business.

Intern must be motivated by the ministry-focused facets of our organization. It is highly recommended that the intern is working towards a degree in marketing, advertising, digital media, management, or business.

Interns will gain experience in the following areas:

  • Identifying and prospecting for new business
  • Creating advertising solutions for businesses
  • Creating Sales Client communications about opportunities
  • Growing the existing advertiser base
  • Research to aid in sales process
  • Assist in organization of training resources
  • Servicing client accounts
  • Working on digital assets
  • Digital sales and marketing
Operations Intern

BRIGHT-FM is seeking an intern with an interest in media group and/or para-church ministry operations. The intern hired for this position will need to have organizational skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, time management skills, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Intern must be motivated by the ministry-focused facets of our organization. It is highly recommended that the intern is working towards a degree in operations management, project management, management, communications, or business.

Interns will gain experience in the following areas:

  • Coordinating multi-department projects
  • Working within a work OS platform
  • Day-to-day building and company operations
  • Developing and implementing workflows and new strategies to improve company productivity
  • Operating a radio station
  • Maintaining compliance to FCC broadcast regulations
  • Exposure to company budgeting, budgeting maintenance, and best practices

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.

What are the application deadlines?

  • Fall Deadline: June 30th
  • Spring Deadline: November 30th
  • Summer Deadline: April 30th

When will this internship take place?

  • Fall Internship: 8-12 weeks beginning in early September
  • Spring Internship: 8-12 weeks beginning in early February
  • Summer Internship: 8-12 weeks beginning in early June

What does a typical week look like?

You will work five hours each day, Monday-Friday. Certain internship roles may require evening and weekend hours. You will work a maximum of 25 hours each week. Ability to travel to both Halethorpe and Bel Air office locations is necessary.

Will I need my own transportation?

In order to fulfill your daily responsibilities with ease, a reliable form of transportation is necessary for your internship.

Can I receive college credit for my internship?

You may receive college credit pending clearance from your university or college. If your school offers internship opportunities, we will work directly with them to ensure that you meet the necessary requirements.

When will I be notified about acceptance into the Semester in Media internship program?

You will be notified approximately one month before the start date of your internship.

Is this internship paid?

Yes. All interns will receive $12.50 per hour.
