Molly’s Minute: Should I Really Follow My Heart?

“Follow your heart.”
The world loves to send us that message. But is it actually good advice?
Research has found that our emotions only last for about 90 seconds.
90 seconds!
That bubbling up feeling of anger, anxiety, or joy only lasts for a minute and a half, and then it’s gone. On to the next one.
If we took that advice and followed something as short-lived and unpredictable as our emotions, we’d be pulled in a hundred different directions every day.
But thankfully, we’ve got something much more dependable to follow.
1 Peter 1:24-25, “The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
God’s word is a constant and reliable guide for us when we need to know which way to go.
So instead of following our emotions everywhere they try to pull us today, let’s follow His word. And let’s stick to the straight and purposeful path He is leading us on.
