Molly’s Minute: If You Want To Say “Yes” To God, You Have To Tell Yourself “No.”

February 21, 2020

Something I’ve been hearing a lot lately is the phrase, “You do you.”

People say it to me all the time, I say it to others a lot, and you’ve probably heard it and said it yourself.

“Do what you wanna do,” “Follow your heart,” “Treat yourself.” All of those are different ways of saying, “You do you.”

But the Bible doesn’t tell us, “You do you.” It doesn’t tell us to live our way.

It tells us to live God’s way.

And living God’s way means we can’t “just do us.” It means saying no to ourselves, to our desires, and to our plans every single day, so that His will can be done in our lives.

And that’s hard. So, don’t feel guilty if you’re not great at it—most of us aren’t.

But we do have to work at it.

Because we can’t say yes to God if we’re always saying yes to ourselves.

Deuteronomy 28:1 “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
