It’s not everyday that you hear of a business being started during an unprecedented pandemic, but that’s exactly what happened for the Underground Pizza Company.

Evan Weinstein, the company’s founder, started his pizza journey when he found himself driving to D.C. frequently to pick up some of his favorite Detroit-style pizza. After a few trips, he figured he could make his favorite pizza at home.

Not only did Evan save himself some trips to D.C., but he had a friend pay him $100 to make and send him one of his creations. The word then got out as more and more people wanted in on some of the Detroit deliciousness, and Evan found himself selling 100 pizzas a week out of his home.

Fast-forward a few months later, the Underground Pizza Company is now located inside Power Plant Live where it is bringing Detroit-style pizza to the heart of Baltimore and beyond. The pizza isn’t the only amazing thing about UPC; Evan is a concert promoter whose job has been put on hold due to COVID-19, so this business has offered him and many others some much-needed work during the pandemic.

So what makes Detroit-style pizza so special? Well, it’s known for its crispy edges, Wisconsin brick cheese, and for being cooked in a blue steel pan. The key, however, is putting the sauce on last and layering it over the other toppings.

There aren’t many places in Maryland that offer this specialty pizza, so if you’re craving it, the Underground Pizza Company is the place to go. They offer pick-up, local delivery, and they can also ship to 48 states.

What better way to celebrate National Pizza Day than placing an order and supporting a local business? Head on over to Underground Pizza Company’s website to place your order, but make sure to order in advance because they often sell out!
