The Gift Her Father Left Behind: Stories of Hope
Three years ago, Capathia Herring’s father, Warren, gave her a simple challenge: listen to BRIGHT-FM for 30 days. She decided to give it a try, not knowing how meaningful that invitation would become. Long after the challenge ended, she kept listening. Through BRIGHT-FM, Capathia discovered artists like Casting Crowns, MercyMe, TobyMac, Anne Wilson, Forrest Frank, and Ben Fuller. Their songs became a source of encouragement, strengthening her faith and reminding her that God was near during difficult seasons.
Then, on May 30, 2026, Capathia lost her father after his battle with prostate cancer. Since then, the music has taken on an even deeper meaning.
“Every time I turn on BRIGHT-FM and hear one of those familiar artists, I immediately think about my dad.”
Certain songs now bring memories of her father rushing back. While those moments can bring tears, they also remind Capathia of the lasting gift he gave her when he first encouraged her to listen.

What started as a 30-day challenge has become a lasting connection to her father, her faith, and the hope she continues to find in the music. BRIGHT-FM has become one of the places where she still feels close to him, even in his absence.
“Even though he is no longer here physically, BRIGHT-FM has become one of those special places where I still feel connected to him.”
Now, Capathia hopes their story can offer that same sense of hope to someone else walking through a difficult season.
“If my story can encourage even one person who is grieving, missing someone they love, or simply trying to hold onto their faith during a difficult season, then I would be honored for it to be shared.”
What began as a simple 30 Day Challenge became something Capathia never expected: a lasting reminder of her father’s love, her faith, and the hope that continues even through loss.
