She Found Purpose in Heartbreak: Stories of Hope
For more than four decades, BRIGHT-FM has been part of Fidelia Israel’s story. She began listening in 1985, but her journey with Jesus started long before that.
Growing up as the daughter of a church elder, Fidelia felt pressure to be baptized, but she wanted the decision to truly be her own.
“I want to do it when I feel it in my spirit,” Fidelia remembers telling her father.
At 16, she was baptized. But Fidelia admits there were years when her faith was “off and on.”
When Fidelia first came to this country, her daughter was just three months old. Her husband was taking odd jobs wherever he could to help them get by, leaving Fidelia alone much of the time in a new country where she didn’t know anyone. That season became a turning point in her relationship with God.
“I was left alone in this country not knowing anyone. That is when I found myself on my knees,” Fidelia shared.
Today, Fidelia is once again leaning on that same faith. In June 2026, her husband, Danny, completed an incredible 25-year journey of preaching through every verse of the Bible. Now, as he faces stage-four prostate cancer, Fidelia continues to trust God through an uncertain season.
Her experiences with faith, grief, and loss also inspired her first book, Broken Hearts Held By God: A Devotional for Any Time of the Year. Inspired by Psalm 34:18, Fidelia hopes the devotional reminds people that even in their hardest moments, God is near.
For more than 40 years, BRIGHT-FM has had the privilege of being one small part of Fidelia’s journey.
