Look Up

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” – Psalm 19:1

On Earth Day, we’re reminded to pause and notice the world around us. The beauty of creation isn’t just something to admire; it’s something that points us back to God.

Psalm 19:1 paints a powerful picture of the world that was created to fill us with a sense of wonder. The sky above us, whether it’s filled with bright sunlight, rolling clouds, or a blanket of stars, is constantly telling a story. And the amazing part is, it does this every single day without saying a word.

Life doesn’t slow down. We rush from place to place, focused on what’s next, rarely slowing down long enough to pause, look up, and appreciate God’s greatest gifts right in front of us. But today is an invitation to be different.

Next time you step outside, really take it in: the warmth of the sun, the detail in a flower, the movement of the trees, the vastness of the sky. When I get the chance to slow down, I find myself in my backyard hammock with my cat Walter curled up beside me, just taking it all in. These aren’t random moments of beauty. They are intentional reminders of God’s creativity, power, and care.

Earth Day also gives us a chance to reflect on how we respond to that gift. If creation reflects God’s glory, then caring for it becomes more than just a good habit. It becomes an act of stewardship and gratitude. The way we treat the world around us can reflect the value we place on what God has made.

That doesn’t have to be overwhelming; it can be simple. Like picking up trash during a walk, being mindful of waste, or choosing to appreciate rather than overlook. Small actions, done with a grateful heart, can become meaningful ways to honor God.

Today, let creation draw your attention back to Him. The heavens are already declaring His glory. Today, we get to join in.
