“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” – Mark 11:24
All right, check this out. There is some crucial context to this verse before you move along from it.
Jesus, who is our ultimate example, prayed: “Everything is possible for you. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine” (Mark 14:36).
Serious question: How often are your prayers motivated by your own desires, your own interests, your own thoughts? Let’s be real, we absolutely love to hear that we can have anything, right? We are filled with joy from this thought that anything we want can be ours.
Back to Jesus, our ultimate example…He prayed with God’s interests in mind. And we are supposed to do that too.
I’m not telling you that you can’t express your desires to God in prayer, not at all. What I am saying is that at all times, we should want the will of God more than our own will.
So here it goes…where is the focus of your prayers? God’s interests or yours?
