Can We Talk To God?

The book of Habakkuk is often overlooked, and many rarely spend time studying it.

I’ll admit, I never spent much time in Habakkuk, but recently, that has changed. The more I study this short book, the more I see the beautiful truths tucked inside. In essence, Habakkuk is a prophet who watches the world around him grow more and more unjust. He’s troubled, wondering when God will bring justice, so he turns to God with his questions.

And God answers.

The whole book is a dialogue between Habakkuk and God. There’s a pattern: the prophet cries out with his worries, and God reassures him that He is fully in control. There’s so much to learn from this, but perhaps the clearest lesson is simple yet profound: we can talk to God.

Habakkuk reminds us that we can bring anything to God – our fears, anger, confusion, joy, and everything in between, and He will respond. We can be honest, pour out our hearts, and trust that He is listening.

“I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy.” – Habakkuk 3:2
