Zach Williams Shares The Story Behind “Less Like Me”

January 10, 2022
BRIGHT-FM

Do you ever find yourself wondering at the end of a day,

“Are there things that I could’ve done better? Are there things that could’ve made me a little more like Jesus?”

These questions are what guided Zach Williams’ song, “Less Like Me.”

Oh, I have days I lose the fight
Try my best but just don’t get it right
Where I talk a talk that I don’t walk
And miss the moments right before my eyes

Just like the lyrics of this song state, there are days when we just don’t get it right. After all, we’re human beings with flaws and imperfections. While most of us are painfully aware of the fact that we’re far from perfect, it can be hard to go through each day feeling the weight of all our inadequacies.

However, the key is not to beat ourselves up over our imperfection. Rather, our faults and shortcomings should point us to Jesus and give us a hunger for the Savior we all so desperately need.

Zach explains that, for him, this song is all about “knowing there’s a God who is perfect and who loves us just the way we are.”

As humans, we aren’t perfect, but thankfully, we serve a God who is.

Want to be more like Jesus today? Try turning this song’s powerful lyrics into a prayer:

Lord, help me be
A little more like mercy, a little more like grace
A little more like kindness, goodness, love, and faith
A little more like patience, a little more like peace
A little more like Jesus, a little less like me
