When You Don’t Know What to Pray

“No one cares what happens to me!”

Those words feel surprisingly relatable, but they were written thousands of years ago by David before he became king (Psalm 142:4). David knew what it felt like to be overwhelmed, exhausted and alone.

While hiding in caves and running from Saul, he cried out to God:

“I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord’s mercy. I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles.”
“Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, ‘You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.’”
Psalm 142:4

Maybe you know what that feels like. Maybe work or home or school wears you down. Maybe you feel like no one, not even God, cares. But David cried out to God and trusted Him completely. God wants us to do the same, to depend fully on Him and bring Him everything we’re carrying.

If you don’t know what to pray today, try David’s words:

“You are my refuge. You are all I want in life. Hear my cry, for I am very low. Rescue me from my persecutors.”
