When Good Intentions Aren’t Enough
Some mornings, I wake up determined that today will be different. I tell myself I am going to start with prayer, open my Bible, and take time to sit in God’s presence. But more often than not, the alarm goes off, I roll over, and those good intentions slip away. Can you relate?
Paul described this struggle so well in Romans 7:15: “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” That verse hits home because it feels so true in daily life.
The truth is, we cannot force ourselves into becoming who God has called us to be. Left on our own, we naturally drift back to what is familiar and easy. God knew that, and in His kindness, He gave us the Holy Spirit to help us. The Spirit strengthens, guides, and shapes us to look more like Jesus.
This is why prayer matters so much. Prayer is not about polished words or long speeches. It is simply a conversation with God. He already knows our hearts, so we can come to Him honestly and authentically.
If you ask Him to help you look more like Christ, you will begin to see the change. If you ask Him to draw closer to you, He will reveal Himself. If you ask Him to wake you up to spend time with Him, He will show you just how faithful He is to answer.
So today, take one simple step. Talk to Him. Invite the Spirit to move in your life. You might be surprised by how powerful even the simplest prayer can be.
