1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

I’ve said it many times before. Addiction is such a cunning, baffling and powerful disease. But there is something that is more powerful…Jesus. He was my escape from a world of sin that was swallowing me whole. I know this to be true because November 30th marks my 19th year of sobriety. The one thing that I had to change right away was many of the people I was associating with. I could not hang around my old friends and go to parties and places with active drinking and drug usage. As they say, “you hang around a barbershop long enough, you are bound to get a haircut.” I had to say good bye to some things.

In our conversation with Joel from for KING & COUNTRY, Joel Smallbone addresses this. His brother and bandmate Luke shared recently about his wife Courtney battling pill addiction. Their song “Burn The Ships” is based on her experience. Press play on the link below to hear our conversation with Joel and his explanation of how Courtney lit the match that burned the ship of her past.

If you have or are struggling with addiction or have a friend or family member that has or is, I’d love to hear from you and pray for you. Send me an email at jack@brightfm.com.
