The ministry of BRIGHT-FM began 61 years ago, and Tim Duff has been part of it for 48 years! Tim’s retiring this month as VP of Finance for Peter & John Ministries (BRIGHT-FM and River Valley Ranch) with a legacy not only as a talented broadcaster and financial steward, but most importantly as a devoted Christ-follower, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Tim served the ministry well, and he’ll be greatly missed. We had the opportunity to honor him last week, with tributes from many on the BRIGHT-FM and PJM staff. Oh, and there was one special guest representing Tim’s lifelong love for the Baltimore Orioles… the Oriole Bird!

Tim’s a man of joy, humor, and faith. We wanted to ask him a few more questions before he leaves!

What did God teach you during your career at BRIGHT-FM and PJM? That He was and always will be faithful, and He ALWAYS provided for the needs of PJM.

What’s your advice for serving and working faithfully, no matter what your career? You are working for the Lord, not your employer, and that forces you to make sure you are doing your best.

Who are some of the people you’ve learned from in your career? John Jeppi – founder of the Broadcasting Institute of MD – he taught me perseverance and how I could do anything. Tom Bisset – how to work hard, enjoy life and always strive to be the best. Norm Cannon & Al Gray – my spiritual mentors. Pete Allen – learned how to do my work as to the Lord and not to men. Dick Ireland – joy!

Is it even possible to name a favorite memory? A favorite memory of mine is when our staff was small and we all had so many different jobs to do. Everyone working together for the common goal of spreading God’s word.

What are you looking forward to most in retirement? Being more involved in my care and transportation ministry at church. And traveling more.

And lastly, what was it like meeting the Oriole bird?! My daughter’s reaction said it all! I am convinced my family was there more for the Bird than me. 😉

If there’s anything to learn from a life of service it is one that Tim lived well: care for people, and show up for them. Send the text, make the call, write the note. You never know how God might use that small act of kindness to do His work.
