God is Not Like Us

God’s handiwork makes up the very being of reality, and you can’t look into the eyes of another human being without seeing someone signed by God’s signature. And yet, with how blessed we are to be made in the image of God, it doesn’t take long when reading the Bible or living life to realize that God, in so many ways, is not like us. 

We hurt others, but God heals. We leave, and God stays. We run, and God pursues the very souls that want nothing to do with Him.

Again and again, God pours out His blessings on the Israelites, who love their idols more than their Creator. He spills his love for humanity onto every heart, as the nations turn away from Him. And yet, His grace continues to pour out on us like rivers flowing from the ocean. 

Simply look at His time-tested character, and the difference shines. 

His love is too infinite for our minds to even begin to grasp. 

His forgiveness is too great to comprehend in our lifetime. 

His faithfulness is too deep to ever understand here on earth. 

What a beautiful thing to have a God that is so unlike the humanity He created. 

Because when we look only to ourselves, lie to protect our reputation, or try to save our own skin, God looks to us. Speaks truth to our lost souls. And saves us at the cost of His only son.

What a reality to have been born in. What a God to serve under and a Father to love and be loved by. His mercy is a beautiful mystery full of cleansing clarity.

So, yes. God is not like us. And what an overwhelming blessing that is.
