Comparing Yourself To Others? What God Wants You To Know…

Have you ever heard the quote by Teddy Roosevelt that says “comparison is the theif of joy?”

Isn’t that the truth?

We can be on top of the world one second and completely gutted the next, all because we fell down the rabbit hole of of comparing ourselves to someone who has something we want…And social media doesn’t help thanks to Instagram and Facebook feeds filled with (seemingly) picture-perfect posts about other people’s lives.

When we compare ourselves to others, we not only forfeit the opportunity to thank God for all we have and all we are, but we also forget to remember that we don’t truly know what’s going on behind the scenes with other individuals. The time spent envying the lives of those around us could rather be used to praise God and grow in compassion for the same people we are tempted to envy.

Comparison begs you to believe that you are inadequate and lacking, but God clearly tells each and every one of us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him (Psalm 139:14). God looks at you and His heart is filled with joy – so, who are we to insult His handiwork?

“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” –Proverbs 14:30
