Celebrating Billy Graham

Few voices have echoed the hope of the gospel more widely or more powerfully than Billy Graham. Born in 1918 on a dairy farm in North Carolina, Graham’s life started simply. But God had a far greater platform in mind for him—one that would stretch across stadiums, airwaves, and generations.

Billy Graham first committed his life to Christ at the age of 16 during a revival meeting. That moment would spark a fire that never went out. Early in his ministry, he would often say, “My one purpose in life is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which I believe comes through knowing Christ.” That simple, clear mission shaped every sermon he preached, every city he visited, every invitation he gave.

In 1949, a tent revival in Los Angeles unexpectedly caught national attention. What was supposed to be a few nights stretched into eight weeks as crowds overflowed and headlines spread the news: something was happening. From there, Billy Graham’s ministry exploded onto the world stage. His Crusades would eventually reach over 215 million people in 185 countries, filling stadiums, broadcasting on radio and television, and leading countless hearts to Jesus.

What set Billy Graham apart wasn’t just the size of the crowds, it was the clarity of his message. In a world complicated by politics, wars, and cultural shifts, Graham’s voice stayed steady: God loves you. Christ died for you. You can have new life through Him.

Despite counseling presidents, walking with civil rights leaders, and traveling the globe, Graham remained humble. He often said, “The ground is level at the foot of the cross.” No matter a person’s status, background, or sin, the invitation was always the same: come to Jesus.

Billy Graham passed away in 2018 at the age of 99, but his legacy lives on, not just in history books, but in the countless lives forever changed by the message he never tired of preaching. His life reminds us that God can take a willing heart, and through His Spirit, reach the ends of the earth with hope.
