In Mark 6:31, Jesus’ apostles had just finished a long period of healing the sick, preaching the Gospel, and driving out impure spirits.

After they returned, Jesus recognized something crucial. His apostles were tired.

30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat…”

So what was Jesus’ response to His disciples’ weariness? He simply said “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31).

Jesus didn’t tell them to work through their fatigue or to suck it up. Instead, He understood their struggle and cared deeply for them.

God sees how hard you’ve been working. He sees how emotionally and spiritually drained you are, and He wants to provide you relief.

Remember, exhaustion is not a badge of honor. Jesus knew the value of rest and so should we. If you’re feeling burdened, stressed, or just plain tired, follow Jesus’ directions and, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Below are some additional verses on rest that you can cling to and use to remind yourself how important this practice is. Screenshot them, write them on sticky notes and post them around your home, or print them out to hang in your office…The more we read them, the more we will believe them and put God’s words into practice…

Matthew 11:28 “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.'”

Hebrews 4:9-10 “So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.”

Psalm 4:8 “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.”

Jeremiah 6:16 “This is what the Lord says: ‘Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, Godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’”

Psalm 23:1-2 “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.”
