Each year, we are reminded of the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001. For some, this date reminds them of loved ones lost and how their world will never be the same.

Words fail in situations like this, so we turn to God. Join us as we lift up our nation and the people hurting on this difficult anniversary…

Dear Lord,

Today, I remember the many victims in NY, PA, and DC who didn’t know September 11th, 2001 would be their last. I remember their families who live with the reminder of their last words together. I remember the heroes who ran towards the rubble and bravely acted. I remember the survivors who can never forget this date.

On this 22nd anniversary, I give thanks that we can unite under You to remember and reflect, much in the same way our nation was united in the days following 9/11/01. I pray for our nation, that we would turn to You on the hard days and the good days. I pray for those hurting, that Your indescribable peace would surround them and comfort them. I pray that we, Your followers and image-bearers, would look more and more like You so we can be Your light.

Amen

Here are a few verses for you to read and ponder today as well. We pray they bring you comfort this day and every day:

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3

“Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.'” – John 11:25

“God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4: 6-7

“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” – Matthew 5:43-45
