“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” – Colossians 3:1-2

A Shift.

In verses 1 and 2 of Colossians 3, Paul makes a shift from the negative (what teachings to avoid) to the positive (what we should seek). He invites us to set our sights on the reality of Heaven, to strive with everything we’ve got to put Heavens priorities into daily practice in our lives.

Our vision and our efforts get blurred when we seek direction or marching orders from anyone other than God and anything other than His Word. Our direction should come from God, not the culture around us.

Focusing on Heaven and letting those thoughts invade our spaces means that we are focusing on what is eternal and will never go away versus the things that are temporary, here for a moment and then gone tomorrow.

Today, let’s intentionally make a shift. Let’s stop focusing on the things of this world that have no value or whose value will decrease over time, and shift that focus to the King of Kings and His kingdom that shall never end.
