What’s Your Aroma?

I went into a local coffee shop to grab a cup and while I waited for my brew, I recognized a young lady I had talked to weeks ago when I was in. We had a funny exchange the 1st time we met.

She sniffed the air around me and noticed my perfume. And she loved it.

She said… “I love your earrings and your shoes and I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but you really smell good. I love your perfume and I think it’s because it smells like…me. But I’m sure you’re not wearing the same perfume I wear…”.

I stopped her and said, “Wait a minute. Do you wear- (and then we said it in unison) Taylor Swift?! What???”

It was hilarious and for a 55 year old, kind of affirming that this lovely young woman had such fabulously similar taste in fragrances as moi… So the next time I saw her, we said a warm hello and she said, “ I thought I’d smell you when you came in but I didn’t this time.“

I laughed out loud at how funny that sounded and then remembered how quickly I ran out of the house to get my coffee that I didn’t spritz on my usual Taylor Swift “Wonderstruck” scent. Her words stayed with me. “I thought I’d smell you when you came in”.

I love that thought. That wherever I go, there would be a sweet fragrance that is all over me. And according to the apostle Paul, there is! It’s the scent of life, of hope, of grace, of mercy, of the deep love of God.. the scent of Jesus. Ahhhhh…. So go ahead and make them sniff. And may they smell the fragrance of His glorious Spirit all over us when we come in. It’s way sweeter than even my Taylor Swift perfume.

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”
2 Corinthians‬ ‭2:14-15‬
