What Teaching My Daughter To Swim Taught Me About God

Over the summer, I was teaching my daughter how to swim. The first step in this process? To get my daughter comfortable with putting her face in the water. It’s a small but, significant step in the process of teaching your child to swim. My daughter had to trust and obey me in this moment.
In our own Christian walk, following God begins with a small act of obedience. Much like my daughter had to obey and trust in the act of blowing bubbles in the water, we are called to do the same with God. Small acts of obedience, no matter how insignificant we may think they are, can have a huge impact on our lives.
In today’s reading of Luke 5:1-7, we discover how Peter saying yes in the small act of giving his fishing boat to Jesus changed Peter’s entire life. What starts as a fishing trip turns Peter’s life into a great call of ministry.
Obeying God in faith, even with the smallest thing, can lead to divine moments in our own lives and with others.
