What Can I Do for Ahmaud Arbery?

What can we do as Jesus followers when we see a horrific display of injustice and racism in the news, as apparent in the death of Ahmaud Arbery?
We feel sickened, helpless, shocked, appalled.
What can we do?
- We can promote Jesus’ perspective. God is love.
- We can participate in a run, walk, or jog 2.23 miles in honor of his life that was taken back on Feb 23. People all over the country are showing their support by running. #RunWithMaud
- We can be purposeful about building relationships with those of different cultures than us and work to tear down the walls of racism.
- We can pray.
Lord,
Heal our nation and our world of racism in every form. May we repent as a people who are redeemed only by the blood of Jesus. Comfort the loved ones of this young man and hear our cries collectively on his behalf for justice and for mercy.
Justice that would bring to trial and convict those who committed this murder. Mercy, so that every heart that is so filthy sick with sin would come to know the love of Christ; that they would be transformed by that love, so that one day, there will be no more stories like this. Not on our watch.
Amen.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and the helpless, and see that they get justice.” – Proverbs 21:8-9
