“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Jeremiah 17:9

As tempting as it may be to obey our desires, the Bible describes the human heart as “deceitful” and “desperately sick.”

It also tells us not to lean on our own understanding. Jesus taught that out of the heart comes “evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.” Following Jesus means denying yourself, not discovering the god inside.
