Wait, Jesus Wants Us To Do WHAT?

“Forgive and forget.”
People throw around that saying a lot. It’s a great idea, but incredibly hard to implement.
For most of us, when someone hurts us, the last thing we want to do is forgive; and we definitely don’t want to forget. That’s why it’s so hard to practice God’s commandment to “love your enemies.”
But like all of His commands, this one is meant for our benefit and protection. God knows forgiveness sets us free from a huge burden, and it makes us more like His perfect Son. True forgiveness isn’t something we can will ourselves to do on our own; we need our heavenly Father’s help.
Next time, when caught between forgiveness and holding a grudge, let’s choose forgiveness and ask God to help us through it.
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:44-45
