Stop Waiting For God To Pull The Rug Out From Under You

God has been so good to me…I’m in this season of blessing and excited about all that’s happening. My husband, Gary and I are moving into a new home (new for us) that will have more room to host our kids and loved ones. We’ve been healthy and getting stronger and healthier during this time of quarantine.

I feel so grateful, but I find myself on edge – waiting for God to pull the rug out from under me.

Like there’s this crazy narrative going in my mind sometimes. It goes something like this:

“You don’t deserve anything so don’t get too comfortable with these blessings, don’t really embrace them, enjoy them, revel in them because after all – the whole world is suffering right now and you shouldn’t be happy. You don’t deserve good things, God knows you don’t.”

First of all, I reject that narrative because I know God doesn’t treat us like our sins deserve. He is a good father. He loves to give good gifts. He is not one to trick us and once we get settled, pull the rug out.

He’s not like that.

So where does this kind of thinking come from? The pit of hell.

There is only one who doesn’t want you to show up for your life and receive God’s grace and mercy and blessings. Your enemy loves to pull the rug out or make you live in fear of that happening. Here’s a way to honor God and thwart that narrative. Receive God’s gifts and enjoy them. Don’t waste a season of blessing on being afraid of a little rug being pulled out from under you. The rug doesn’t hold your blessings anyway.

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
– Jesus, Matthew 7:11
