Molly’s Minute: You Can’t Lose What You Can’t Earn

Growing up, I had to work to earn my dessert. If I wanted that bowl of ice cream after dinner, I had to be good. I had to earn it with good behavior.
But if I wasn’t good—if I broke a rule or talked back to my parents—I wasn’t getting any ice cream. I lost that privilege.
I had to do something to earn my dessert. So that meant that I could also do something to lose it.
But the things we receive from God aren’t like that.
Ephesians 2:8 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
God’s love, grace, and forgiveness aren’t things that we earn. They’re gifts that He gives to us when we put our faith in Jesus.
We didn’t do anything to earn them. We couldn’t do anything to earn them.
So, we couldn’t do anything to lose them, either.
No matter what you’ve done, you’ve still got them.
Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
