Molly’s Minute: Undeserved Grace

November 13, 2020

A few years ago, I was working a fast food job where my shift started every morning at 5:30.

So, when I woke up one workday at 5:30, I knew I was in trouble. Not only would I be late, I would be late for the third time that month.

I called my boss, bracing myself for punishment, but that’s not what I got.

Instead, he told me it was okay, not to worry about it, and to just get there as soon as I could.

And I’ll never forget that.

Where I clearly deserved punishment for what I did wrong, my boss treated me with patience and forgiveness instead.

And we have a God who treats us the same way.

Psalm 103 says, “He does not deal with us according to our sins… For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love…”

God has every right to punish us for the things we do wrong. But where we deserve punishment, thanks to Jesus, God gives us grace.

So, let’s give thanks for that undeserved grace today, and let’s extend that same kind of grace to the people around us.

Psalm 103:10-11 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him…”
