Molly’s Minute: He’s Done It Before

December 21, 2022

In the book of Exodus chapter 15, the Israelites have just escaped from Egypt. But now, wandering in the wilderness, they run into a new problem:

For three days, they can’t find any drinkable water.

God has literally just displayed His power by parting the Red Sea. So, you would think the Israelites would trust Him to be faithful here, too.

But they don’t.

Too focused on the problem in front of them, they forget what God has done for them. And they grow anxious and start to complain.

But Moses, who remembers what God has just done, isn’t afraid. He trusts God and asks for His help.

And God gives them all water to drink.

Forgetting God’s past faithfulness quickly leads to fear and doubt.

But remembering what God has done in the past strengthens us to trust Him in the present.

So today, in the face of our present trials, let’s remember the past—all the things God’s done before—and let’s trust that He will do it again.

Exodus 15:24-25 “And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, ‘What shall we drink?’ And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.”
