Jesus Has An Invitation Just For You

“But I, by your great love, can come into your house…”

– David, Psalm 5:7

Do you have those people in your life who are so close to you, so trusted, so familiar.. that they don’t knock, they just come in?

It makes my heart happy when they do that. There is no hesitation or formality. They just know, my house is their house and they are welcome to come right in.

As much as it honors me when my loved ones feel that comfortable, I struggle with doing the same thing at their homes. Even at my mom’s house, I usually knock even though she’s expecting me. And she says…”Tracey, why are you standing out there when you know you can just come right in!”

King David wrote these words a long time ago in Psalm 5 that grabbed me: “But I, by your great love, can come into your house…”

The love that my mom has for me is enough to give me permission to come into her house. And she actually wants me to come in.

Why do I hesitate? Why do I have a hard time believing I am always welcome? Why do I stand outside in the cold and knock on a door that is unlocked and open for me?

And sometimes I do the same thing with God.

I feel like a pant-tugger. Too needy, too immature, too much…and so I stay outside and try to figure it out my life on my own. Listen…no matter how old you are, all of us are children who just need a warm, safe place to come inside and be loved. And God’s door is open! The love that He has for us, has been clothed in flesh and Jesus is our invitation. He’s not just being polite; he’s not half-hoping we won’t show up so he can do other things with his day. Jesus wants us to come into His house.

And He’s so extravagantly generous and gracious, so merciful, so kind that He even does the knocking.

This thing we’ve been invited into is so rich, I can’t tell if I’m letting Him in or He’s letting me in.

All I know is…I want in with Jesus.
