Dear Anxiety, Let’s Break Up!

Anxiety affects over 49 million people in the U.S. and that just includes the ones who have been officially diagnosed. How many more struggle with these feelings of worry, fear, or dread that can creep on you when you least expect and keep you from the life you were meant to live?
I have my personal battle with anxiety; I wish I could say it’s over and that I’ve won, but the truth is, I am still working on it. I have dealt with the shame and guilt that can accompany the anxious episodes.
I love Jesus. I should be better than this. Right?
Well…I am no longer “should-ing.” People of faith are human too. People with real struggles who need help and support. There is no shame in getting help when you need it; In fact, that’s just wisdom.
One of the most helpful conversations I’ve had is the one I am about to share with you. Dr. Amanda Porter is a mental health practitioner and also a fellow struggler. She gets it. And if you struggle with anxiety, she gets you. She gives us some practical tools to help us overcome this battle and win. She helps by integrating our faith and understanding of what anxiety really is.
Her insights really helped me and I believe they will help you too.
Take some time for yourself to listen and share it with someone you love who is in this battle. We can win.
