Are you looking ahead? Or are you looking in the rear view mirror?

I like visuals and one of my favorites is the rear view mirror.
The point of the rear view mirror is to see what’s behind you while you’re moving forward.
In life we go through things we don’t like, regret, and wish we could have done differently.
Think about that thing – the thing that happened today, yesterday, last week, last month, ten years ago, twenty years ago and look at it from the rear view mirror. Think, “It happened, yes, but I can’t do anything about that ‘thing,’ but what I can do is keep going forward.” Take a glance in the rear view mirror every quarter of a mile, half a mile, two miles, and that “thing” gets farther and farther away.
My prayer for you is that it gets so far in the distance that it does not haunt you any more. My prayer is that there’s no guilt and there’s no shame, especially if you have Christ in the driver’s seat and you’re sitting next to Him. Let Him do all the controlling. Let Him do the driving so you don’t feel the need to look in the rear view mirror anymore. Leave the past in the past and move forward in the future that God has created for you.
