A Letter From John Lawhon

It is with excitement, bitter sweetness and trust in the Lord that I announce that June 5th will be my final day on the air at BRIGHT-FM.
I walked into this radio station full-time at 20 years old and for the past 11 years, I’ve known little more than the honor and great responsibility to share the love of God with people through a microphone. What a blessing it has been to share my life on the airwaves. From dating and eventually marrying Alex, to my beautiful daughters Riley and Colbie, in the ups and downs of my faith journey, through depression and life’s victories, I’ve shared it all. And while I know and trust that God will use me to have a greater impact, it is difficult to close this chapter. I will certainly miss serving you in this way.
You may or may not know that for the past 11 years at BRIGHT-FM, I have served as more than a radio personality. I started off in audio production, became the music director and assistant program director, for the past 2+ years I have served as BRIGHT-FM’s program director and as of this year became the director of programming and content.
As you can imagine, doing all of that behind the scenes over the years as well as doing a daily radio show is a bit crazy! It has been increasingly clear over the past two years that my energy will be more effective if 100% laser-focused on directing our programming and content.
I’m excited for the growth that will come from my decision. I’m excited to invest my creative energies into others and to lead our teams with greater focus.
Through it all, I’ve done my best to approach everything with open hands and hard work. While I don’t always get it right, God never fails. It is so clear where he’s leading me and this ministry. These 11 years have been a gift that I never imagined. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it. It has been a privilege to have been with you in your car, at work, at home and wherever you have listened to BRIGHT-FM.
